Nc Dmv "not Ready Rejection"

30 posts in this topic

Can anyone out there explain the "not ready" condition the inspection station got off my car?

catalyst - Not completed, O2 sensor- Not completed.

The mechanic said something about they were not cycled thru. Any info on that would really help.

several of the other systems did show completed such as: Misfire, O2 Sensor heater, Fuel System, Comprehensive Component, Evaporative system.

Overall note : your vehicle has too many unset(not ready) readiness codes.

thanks for your help, CK.

Just guessing here Greg.... I think you have to give her a good run before being tested. She must be fully warmed up.

Your test was just OBD or do they Dyno with a sniffer?

If you have headers or high flow cats a tuner will usually disable the rear o2 sensors to prevent a CEL light. This will show up as not ready status.

If within the last 120 miles you disconnected the battery or reinstalled a tune, they may read as not ready as the system needs time to cycle through and check all the systems. If the 02 sensors are not disabled then you will need about this many miles with no codes or cels to pass. Its a crap shoot with me every year...

I have shorty headers, maybe the o2 sensors are disabled. I stopped by DMV and they said a waver may be possible if I have no codes and the check engine light functions. I will know tomorrow morning. thanks everyone. CK.

Greg, everyone has told you what the issue is. Just take the advice and you're golden. Go drive the car at 68MPH with NO cruise control for about 10 minutes. Swing by Advance Auto and have them check the readiness monitors with their scan tool. If all's good, proceed to inspection, if rear O2s are still not ready, then they're turned off in your tune and AJ can fix it.

You don't have to go AutoZone to see if the car is ready. get in your car and turn the key to the 'ON' position. The CEL light will come on. Now wait, awhile... like 20-30 seconds... if it blinks, you're not ready, if it stays solid, then you're good to go.

I had my car ready to be inspected, light was staying on, I ran Wyatt to school and came back to the house to get a few things and then run to get inspected... Jumped i the car and it fired up and shut off. Restarted and it did the same thing, except the CEL came on.

Dammit.

So weird, my car didn't want to crank again, so I hooked up some juice to it (jumper cables), cleared the codes, fired it up and went for a drive. I don't think i drove it far enough, or fast enough (I thought it was 65, not 68). It's still showing 'not ready', but I'll take it for another spin and see if we can get it to 'ready'.

I'm also in NC, and go through this every year.

No speedy it doesn't tell you why, though if you throw a Code you can do the key dance and see some codes.

FYI I did pass inspection today. I had to drive awhile but it finally set to ready. I shot over and got inspected, then straight to the office to pay my registration and taxes online. I'm good to go!!

I went through this 2 years ago but can't recall exact specifics. I found the key trick is the best for a readiness indicator. My bug was running a 176 T-stat. There is an elapse run time value AFTER the coolant reaches X degrees before she checks all around and mine was just short of reaching X so no chance of readiness.

Had the same problem my last inspection. Had put the stock tune back in and didn't have enough ignition cycles, drove another week and took it back in and passed easily..

Thanks concussion that's some good info right there.

OK AJ said download the inspection tune he put into the predator DUH (why didn't I think of that).... I did this in am, he said drive it for 1/4 1/3 tank of gas... I did this this afternoon.

concussion told me how to know when its cycled ... I did that and damn if that didn't work. woke up this am and the damn thing flashed after 25+/- seconds. got back after 100 miles and no flashing ... and passed. thanks to all.

back to other tune *ninja* .

You got that right! Why else would brand new cars need to be tested when they come with a 10 year emissions warranty. It's a HUGE racket.

1% of folks mod their cars, maybe less than that. My 2009 Challenger has just under 20K miles on it. I guarantee I have a smaller emissions foot print in it than the person that drives their Prius 18K miles a year. I actually petitioned our local congress to change the emissions laws for exemptions based on mileage a couple years ago and lost. Bastards.

I think giving 10 year old cars a pass is the biggest bullshit , since they fuck up the air a lot more than a AJ tuned RT.

yeah, and we never mod our cars during those 10 years. scouts honor, honest
